Dr. Nicole Arias: Anxiety, Trauma & ADHD Therapy for Children, Teens, and Adults

Dr. Nicole Arias is a clinical psychologist who brings a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative presence to her work with clients. She specializes in supporting children, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Clients often describe feeling genuinely safe, understood, and not judged in her presence—especially if they’ve struggled to open up in therapy before. Dr. Arias helps clients slow down, make sense of their emotions, and begin to feel more grounded, confident, and in control. Her approach is especially helpful for those who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or pressured to “have it all together,” and are ready to experience lasting emotional relief and deeper self-understanding.

Formal & Academic Education

Dr. Arias completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Master’s in Counseling Psychology, and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Saint Elizabeth University, where she developed a strong foundation in both clinical theory and applied practice. Her doctoral training emphasized evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention across diverse populations, preparing her to work with individuals across the lifespan.

She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Andrus Children’s Center, where she gained extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families navigating complex emotional and behavioral challenges. During this time, she provided therapy in settings that required sensitivity to trauma, attachment dynamics, and systemic stressors, further shaping her relational and developmentally informed approach.

Following her internship, Dr. Arias continued her advanced clinical training through a postdoctoral position at Pediatric Assessment, Learning & Support (PALS). In this role, she specialized in comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments, supporting children and adolescents with learning differences, ADHD, and emotional concerns. This experience deepened her understanding of how cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors intersect—particularly in school and early career settings.

In addition to her formal education, Dr. Arias has completed specialized training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based modality that strengthens the parent-child relationship while addressing behavioral concerns. This training informs her work with children and families, allowing her to support not only the child, but also the parent-child dynamic in a practical and collaborative way.

Across her training and professional development, Dr. Arias has consistently focused on integrating research-backed approaches with a compassionate, individualized understanding of each client’s unique story.

EMDR & Integrative Approach

Dr. Arias takes an integrative, client-centered approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and acceptance and commitment approaches. She tailors her work to each individual, recognizing that no two clients experience challenges in the same way. Her style is warm, empathetic, and collaborative. She strives to create a space where clients feel comfortable being honest, even about thoughts or feelings they usually hold back.

When working with adults and young adults, Dr. Arias focuses on helping clients better understand patterns such as anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, and self-doubt. Clients can expect to gain practical tools for managing overwhelming emotions, while also building deeper self-awareness and self-compassion. Over time, many clients feel more confident, emotionally steady, and able to navigate challenges without feeling stuck or consumed by them.

In her work with children, Dr. Arias takes a developmentally attuned and engaging approach, helping younger clients express and understand their emotions in ways that feel natural and accessible to them. She works closely with parents to provide guidance, tools, and insight so they feel more confident supporting their child outside of sessions. This collaborative approach often leads to improved emotional regulation, stronger communication, and a more connected parent-child relationship.

She is currently undergoing EMDRIA-approved training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the Center for Excellence, while also receiving ongoing consultation with her practice’s internal EMDR leadership. This allows her to thoughtfully begin integrating EMDR-informed techniques into her work, particularly for clients navigating trauma, including childhood emotional abuse, as well as anxiety and persistent negative thought patterns.

Dr. Arias often works with individuals experiencing generalized anxiety, social anxiety, perfectionism, and overthinking, as well as women navigating depression. She also supports clients processing the impact of childhood trauma—particularly those who grew up with emotionally unavailable or narcissistic caregivers—and individuals managing ADHD, school stress, or feeling “behind” in their careers.

Her goal is to help clients not only reduce symptoms, but to leave therapy feeling more emotionally steady, self-aware, and confident in their ability to handle challenges, both in the present and long-term.
